2026 Boys Youth Basketball (3rd-6th) - Winter 2026

3rd & 4th: This program includes practices twice a week with league games against other area teams on Saturdays. Continued emphasis on developing basketball skills. 

5th & 6th: This program includes practices twice a week with league games on Saturdays. The emphasis will be to continue developing all skill levels.

Cost: $80.00/$90.00 after 1/3/2026 for both leagues.

Dates: January 5, 2026- March 7, 2026

Youth Basketball Open Gym 2026 - Winter 2025

Youth Basketball Open Gym is back at Coal Ridge this January and February! Open gym will take place Sundays at the Coal Ridge High School Main Gym from 1pm to 4pm for players from 7 years old to 14 years old. The gym will be split with 7 - 10 year olds playing on one side and 11 - 14 year olds on the other. Drop in for just $5 per session, no need to register ahead of time.

Parents must come inside at drop off and pick up to sign their children in and out.

January 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th

February 1st, 15th & 22nd 

There will be no open gym Sunday, February 8.

This is a CO-ED League 

Competitive League: 4v4
Crafted for skilled players, our Competitive League embraces a 4v4 format with controlled passes, sets, & spikes. Teams, limited to six players, can only make substitutions from other league teams. No open hand tipping is allowed as well as setting bumps, you must be squared at all time when setting across the net. 

League Highlights:
- Ages 18+
- Location: Riverside Middle School, 215 Alder Ave, New Castle
- When: Tuesday's, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
- Dates: January 20th - February 24, 2026 
- Team Cost: $200 (4v4)

-Registration Deadline: January 12th, 2026

- Key Rule: At least one girl must be on the floor at all times.

Little Hoopers Basketball (K-3rd) - Winter 2026

A co-ed Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grade basketball program emphasizing ball handling, following directions, and skill instruction including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Practices will be held at Elk Creek Elementary on Saturday mornings.

Recreational League: 6v6
Welcoming all skill levels, the Recreational League offers a laid-back atmosphere with occasional bump-set-spike plays. Rosters, accommodating up to eight players, allow substitutions from rostered players. One girl must play the ball at each play, if not side-out point to the other team. 

League Highlights:
- Ages 18+

Adult Basketball League - Winter 2026

NCR 5v5 Adult Full-Court Basketball League

The league is open to players 18+. The Recreation division is designed for enjoyable, casual play. The Competitive division is intended for advanced, high-level teams. Divisions may combine if needed.

The season runs Jan. 4 – Feb. 22, 2026 (no games Feb. 8) with games on Sundays at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 PM; each team plays 6 games including a tournament at Coal Ridge HS; cost is $400 per team. max 12 teams; registration deadline is Dec. 26, 2025

Jerseys: Reversible jerseys required. NCR can provide 12 for an additional $300 ($25 for each player) purchased by Dec. 9, 2025.

Roster: Max 12 players per team. Once on the roster, players cannot be removed. You may add player up to 12, but no changes after Feb. 1, 2026. A 13th player will not be allowed. Choose carefully.

Technical Fouls: Each tech = $50 fine, paid before re-entry. Two techs = removal from league. Only IAABO refs can give techs. If no IAABO ref is present, NCR staff may issue a 2-min cooldown instead.

NEW Competitive Rules: If no certified ref is available, teams must ref the game before or after theirs. Captains will receive the full game & ref schedule Dec. 29. By Thursday each week, captains must submit their volunteer ref’s name; if not, the team captain must ref. NCR provides a ref shirt & whistle. Missed ref duty = opponent starts with 25 points. If reffing is deemed unfair, NCR may end the program and give partial refunds.

Ticket sales:  5:30-7:30pm . . . Chili Tasting 5:30-8:00pm   -Voting ends at 8:00pm / Winners announced soon after

Two winners:

“Judges’ Champion” will be determined by seven anonymous judges.

“People’s Choice” will be determined by popular vote.

Judges’ Champion - $200 prize  

People's Choice - $150 prize

Winners also receive a medal and bragging rights. 

2026 Lego League - Competition Series - Annual 2026

Calling all builders!  Our LEGO League 2026 competitions are scheduled!

Builders must register beforehand!

Our Lego League Competition Series is your chance to show off your building skills, Lego knowledge and creativity! Competition will take place every third Thursday of the month starting January 2026. Building will take place at the New Castle Community Center from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm. Registration is $10 and required beforehand. There will be no Lego League in November & December 2026.

We supply all building materials to be used in the competition.

Structures will remain property of New Castle Recreation.

Individual builders will be judged in two categories based on age, 5-8 years and 9-12 years.

Individual contestants will have one hour to build a masterpiece to present to the judges.

The judges will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each age group. Register your Lego Lover today!

Junior Titans Basketball Camp - Winter 2025

Junior Titans Basketball Camp (Grades 3rd-8th)
Learn the basic fundamentals of basketball from shooting, dribbling, to passing from our Coal Ridge HS coaches and players. Open to both boys and girls. All campers will receive a camp gift and prizes for contests.

Days/Times: Monday, Dec 29th through Wednesday, Dec 31st from 10am-12pm each day

Kids' Kitchen will continue through the school year on WEDNESDAYS with Ms. Candice

We will follow kid-friendly recipes while learning the science of cooking and measuring.

Fun Fall Activity Days - Fall 2025

The first two days of Thanksgiving Break, we will offer fun activities and crafts to keep kids busy*.

Monday, Nov. 24th and/or Tuesday, Nov. 25th

9am-4pm at the New Castle Community Center

For ages Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.

Limited Space available. Must register online before November 20th, newcastlerec.com

Participants must bring a sack lunch, two snacks and a water bottle. Wear clothes and coats appropriate for indoor and outdoor activities.

$50 each day/per child

*We will make pies using fresh pumpkins both days. The rest of the activities will be different each day.
