Growing Microgreens - Class for Youth - Winter 2025

Kids!  Join us for a fun and informative class all about Microgreens.

Friday, February 28th  1pm approx. one hour - New Castle Community Center

Youth of all ages - $30 per tray  (Kids under the age of 5 will need an adult helper.)

This class will be taught by Kaylin Harju, owner of Mesa Microgreens. She will go over Microgreens, how they grow, health benefits and the nuances of growing microgreens. She will get you started with a Microgreens growing kit with all the materials you will need and instructions to grow your own Microgreens.

Participants will each take home an 8"x12" growing tray with everything needed to start up.

2025 Spring Coed 3rd/4th Grade Soccer - Spring I 2025

New Castle Recreation is excited to present 3rd & 4th Grade Recreational Soccer! This coed program is aiming to build soccer knowledge and skills while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and equal playing time for all. Soccer will kick off April 7th and end May 23rd, practices will be twice a week depending on coach availability and our practice location is still being determined. Games will be played against other recreation departments in Rifle on Fridays.

Your player will need shin guards and rubber molded soccer cleats.

Spring Break Activity Days - Spring 2025

We will be keeping the kids busy having fun at the New Castle Community Center, the first two days of Spring Break. Our days will be filled with cooking, crafting, games and outdoor play.

Spring Micro Soccer - Spring 2025

Micro Soccer

Pre-K through 2nd grade   (at least 4 years old)

Micro Soccer is a recreational program designed for children in Pre-K through 2nd grade. This program emphasizes having fun while teaching essential soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and scoring.

Dates & Location 

The program runs from April 9th to May 16th, 2025 at 850 Alder Park, New Castle, Colorado 81647 

Cost
Registration is $60 per child. If a jersey is needed, the cost is $75.

Schedule

For Pre-K and Kindergarten participants, sessions are held twice a week with one practice and a scrimmage game each week.

For 1st and 2nd graders, the program meets three times a week with two practices and a game on Friday evenings.

Grade Levels

Children will participate in the grade level they are currently enrolled in.

Indoor Adult Winter Pickleball | Session 1 - Winter 2025

Join us for an exciting adult indoor pickleball program at Elk Creek Elementary School this winter! The program begins on January 7th and runs through February 27th, with sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the school gym.

No pickleball Thursday, January 30th.

The drop-in fee is $10 per session, and we are offering a punch pass for 10 sessions, which can be used anytime within this session and future sessions at New Castle Recreation. The punch pass must be purchased before the program starts and will be ready for you before the first session on January 7th.

This program is designed for adults of all skill levels, whether you’re an experienced player or new to the game. Come enjoy a great workout, meet new people, and improve your pickleball skills in a fun and supportive environment. 

Youth Basketball Open Gym - Winter 2025

Keep your kiddos moving this winter and join us for our new Youth Open Gym in January and February! Open gym will take place Sundays at the Coal Ridge High School Main Gym from 1pm to 4pm for players from 7 years old to 14 years old. The gym will be split with 7 - 10 year olds playing on one side and 11 - 14 year olds on the other. Drop in for just $5 per session, no need to register ahead of time.

Parents must come inside at drop off and pick up to sign their children in and out.

There will be no open gym Sunday, February 9.

African Drumming - with Jessie Lehmann - Annual 2025

Learn traditional West African rhythms in a fun and supportive setting. Have fun and connect through drumming with Jessie Lehmann.

New Castle Community Center - 6pm - one hour

Bring a drum or two, or more, if you have them. Jessie will also have drums for us to use.

 This is not a class, but more of a get-together with neighbors to make these natural home remedies.

All ingredients and supplies will be provided and we will have enough for 8 of us to each take home a quart of Fire Cider and a pint of Elderberry Syrup.

If you are not familiar with Fire Cider or Elderberry Syrup, please do your own research before registering for this activity.  Do Your Own Research Before Using Any Fruits, Vegetables, or Herbs Medicinally. We are not certified or licensed herbalists.  We are simply following recipes and sharing our personal experiences.

Adult Basketball League - Winter 2025

This is 5v5 full court recreational league. There are 2 divisions: Recreation and Competitive Divisions to level the playing field and increase the enjoyment for all players and teams.

Recreational League: These teams have average skills. These teams play the game for enjoyment and fun.

Competitive League: These teams have above average skills and play at a high level and have experience in the league. 

**if there is not enough interest in the two divisions, the league will be combined into 1 division**

Cost: $400 per team (Deposit of $200 due to reserve team spot and $200 will be due before first game) This breaks down to roughly $40-$50 a player for a team of 8-10.

Every player will have to sign a code of conduct before they can play. Our code of conduct will be enforced.

Dates: January 5 - Feb. 23, 2025 (No League play on 2/9/2025, Super Bowl Sunday)

Days/Times: Sundays 6:00-9:00pm or 6:30-9:30pm

Games: Season will consist of 6 games including tournament

Location: Coal Ridge High School (alternate site at Riverside Middle School)

Registration Deadline: Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024

All players must be 18 years or older. Maximum number of teams will be 12.

Roller Skate basics / intro to Roller Derby - Adults or Juniors - Winter 2025

Come learn ROLLER-SKATING basics and the fundamentals of ROLLER-DERBY with some of our local roller derby players!

These separate classes are for JUNIORS ages 8 to 17 . . . and for ADULTS ages 18 and older  -(Boys, Girls, Men, Women)

All participants must have their own quad skates (classes are designed for roller skates with four wheels, 2 in front, 2 in back, side by side . . . NOT roller blades with in-line wheels) 

Also required:  helmet, elbow pads, knee pads and wrist guards. These safety items can be purchased at local sporting goods stores, big box stores or on Amazon. Participants can skate only if they have all the required equipment. (bike helmets, skateboard pads etc. are allowed).
