2025 Introduction to Pickleball Youth - Summer 2025

Sign your kids up to learn about the fastest growing sport in the US! Introduction to Pickleball is for kids from 2nd to 7th grade, but older kids are welcome to register as well. Meeting at 9am every Monday in June, we will cover the basics of pickleball and play games against each other! We will play at the outdoor pickleball courts at Bear Dance Park, paddles and balls will be provided but feel free to send your player with their own paddle if you like. We hope to see you on the courts soon!

Youth Volleyball Camp (3rd-6th grade) - Summer 2025

Join us for a 3-day Youth Volleyball Camp wtih Coach Ari!

 Friday in May (May 9th, 16th, and 23rd) from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bear Dance Park!

3rd through 6th grade | $30 

Come learn fundamental volleyball skills, participate in fun drills, and play games designed to help improve your abilities on the court.

What to Bring:

• Tennis shoes

• Water bottle

Don’t forget to invite your friends and get ready for some volleyball fun!

Summer Baseball typically has 2 practices and/or 1-2 games per week.

This is a 4 week program focusing on the fundamentals of baseball. 

This program typically has 1 practice and 1 "scrimmage game" a week. Practices and games are in the evenings.

Cornhole Tournament - Summer 2025

Pool Play → Single Elimination (Everyone gets a shot before the real competition begins.)
Hogback Pizza will be serving up pizza and cold drinks for sale (Yes, you can take your beverage into the cornhole arena.) NO outside alcohol allowed.  We may check your ID more than once.

Lego League - Competition Series - Summer 2025

Calling all builders!  Four Dates through August!

Our Lego League Competition Series is your chance to show off your building skills, Lego knowledge and creativity!

We supply all building materials to be used in the competition.

Individual builders will be judged in two categories based on age, 5-8 years and 9-12 years.

Individual contestants will have one hour to build a masterpiece to present to the judges.

The judges will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each age group. Register your Lego Lover today!

Indoor Adult Spring Pickleball | Session 1 - Spring I 2025

Join us for an exciting adult indoor pickleball program at Elk Creek Elementary School this spring! This session begins on March 18th and runs through May 15th, with sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the school gym.

No pickleball Tuesday, March 25th and Thursday, March 27th due to Spring Break.

The drop-in fee is $10 per session, and we are offering a punch pass for 10 sessions, which can be used anytime within this session and future sessions at New Castle Recreation. The punch pass must be purchased before the program starts and will be ready for you before the first session on March 18th.

This program is designed for adults of all skill levels, whether you’re an experienced player or new to the game. Come enjoy a great workout, meet new people, and improve your pickleball skills in a fun and supportive environment. 

CO-ED Volleyball Grass Tournament - Summer 2025

The tournament will be hosting 8+ grass courts. There will be teams of Co-Ed 2v2 competitive, and Co-Ed 4v4 recreational. Please make sure to sign up with the appropriate level to maximize the fun!

4v4: $100 until 5/16 then $125 per team

(One female must be on the court at all times and only allowed 4 players on a team)

Hogback Hustle 5k - Summer 2025

The Hogback Hustle 5k - Saturday, May 10th at 9AM!

Start Time: 9:00am

Sign up before April 18th to get a T-Shirt

The Hogback Hustle 5k benefits the New Castle Recreation Department and the Youth Scholarship Program.

The 5k race starts at the New Castle City Market parking lot and finishes at Burning Mountain Park downtown.

Cost: $30.00 per person, $35.00 after  May 1st

The first 50 to register will get a race shirt - 3 Prize categories: Adult Female, Adult Male, Youth!

African Drumming - with Jessie Lehmann - Annual 2025

Learn traditional West African rhythms in a fun and supportive setting. Have fun and connect through drumming with Jessie Lehmann.

New Castle Community Center - 6pm - one hour

Spring Micro Soccer - Spring 2025

Pre-K through 2nd grade   (at least 4 years old)

Micro Soccer is a recreational program designed for children in Pre-K through 2nd grade. This program emphasizes having fun while teaching essential soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and scoring.

Dates & Location 

The program runs from April 9th to May 16th, 2025 at 850 Alder Park, New Castle, Colorado 81647 (Pre-K) and (1st & 2nd) is a VIX PARK

Cost
Registration is $60 per child. If a jersey is needed, the cost is $75.

Schedule

For Pre-K and Kindergarten participants, sessions are held twice a week with one practice and a scrimmage game each week.

For 1st and 2nd graders, the program meets three times a week with two practices and a game on Friday evenings.

LUNCH BUNCH -  Each Wednesday we will gather in the New Castle Community Center Kitchen to make lunch for ourselves. We will talk about nutrition and balanced meals. We will practice setting the table and proper table etiquette. We will clean up our mess in the kitchen and do the dishes.  If we have time, we will plan the menu and shopping list for the next Wednesday meal.
